What is Your Unique Version of Success?

It’s easy to get caught up in the comparison trap of what other farms versions of success look like.

Follower counts.
Revenue milestones.
Being the biggest farm.
Doing more, scaling faster, showing up louder.

Even when we know those things aren’t the goal, they have a way of sneaking in and shaping how we measure ourselves.

But success isn’t the same for all of us. We’ve all lived completely difference lives with experiences that have shaped our perspective on what we want.

For me? My battle with Lyme disease completely reshaped my goals. I went from chasing financial goals and growth to just being happy to be alive and cherishing the precious time I have with my family.

Instead of being all in on growing our farm, I shifted my goals to include significantly more downtime, travel, time with friends, and a less hurried approach to life.

Another example - we left a profitable and well-established farmers market when we realized we were missing out on every single Saturday with our kids. So we gave up our spot and focused on delivery and our on-farm store. Scary? Absolutely, but our sales never dropped and we’ve created more balance in our lives.

For some, success looks like hitting a specific financial goal or achieving a certain level of growth.
For others, it’s paying off a mortgage or building long-term stability.

But it’s ok for your version of success to be much quieter too.

It might look like:

  • Taking Sundays off with your family

  • Having a great relationship with your spouse and kids

  • Choosing sales outlets that supports your life instead of consuming it

None of those are smaller or less impressive goals, just different than we’re used to hearing about.

Chasing someone else’s definition of “more” without stopping to ask whether it actually fits your life will never make you happy.

A Question to Sit With

As we enter a new year, this is an important time to really think about what your version of success is. It will help you build your farm and business around what really matters.

Take a few minutes to reflect and journal on:

If no one else was watching, what would success actually look like for me right now?

There’s no right answer, no one ever needs to even see your answer, so be honest!

Being honest about what you really want out of life is essential so you can start making decisions to build your own unique version of success.
